Mother Infant Research Activities
(MIRA), Nepal was established in 1992 to develop appropriate
and cost-effective interventions to improve mother and infant
health in poor communities. Projects undertaken include developing
cost-effective methods to reduce birth asphyxia, improve
the nutritional status of pregnant mothers and babies, and
changing behaviours through effective health promotion. MIRA
also assisted Nepal's Ministry of Health devise a national
policy for newborn care.
